Our newest equipment is a highly innovative advanced instrument called a CIRRUS HD-OCT. This equipment performs a cross sectional image of your retina. It helps the optometrist to clearly see the internal structures of your eye so that problems can be treated before they progress. At no time does the machine ever touch your eye, the scan is quick, safe and painless.
The retina is the layer of the eye in which light is focused, and then the images are transmitted to the brain. In other technology the optometrist can only see the surface layer of the retina. With an OCT scan the optometrist can view whats below the surface.
This helps the optometrist to examine your retina properly – much like a doctor diagnoses a broken arm with an xray, or a ruptured disc with an MRI. An OCT is the ultimate tool to measure the delicate structures and monitor any changes for precise diagnosis and treatment.
Some of the diseases and conditions easily detected by OCT are: Macular Hole, Age-Related Macular Degeneration, Post cataract surgery issues, Glaucoma and more.
This offers us the technology to provide the best possible care for our patients. It allows the optometrist to watch closely and respond to the slightest change. We can save you the hassle and cost of visiting your specialist for this scan – have it done locally, with minimum fuss and we can provide the results to your Doctor or Specialist.
